The Project

Foxdale began as a tired 1840s farmhouse, set within five acres of historic Cheshire countryside. The vision was to preserve the soul of the original house while carefully transforming it into a home worthy of its setting. As we stripped the building back to its bones, the house began to reveal its history. Original doorways and long-hidden windows emerged, alongside forgotten basement spaces, wine cellars and traces of how the property had evolved through generations. Rather than erase these discoveries, they became part of the story of Foxdale and helped shape the restoration that followed. The gardens were equally important. Originally designed by renowned Victorian landscape gardener Edward Kemp, they had become lost over time. Restoring their structure, character and relationship with the house became central to the project, bringing the wider estate back to life. Inside, traditional craftsmanship was balanced with carefully considered additions. Bespoke timber panelling reinstated warmth and character to the heart of the house, while a central oak-framed atrium brought natural light deep into the interior. A new pool atrium was introduced as a quieter contemporary intervention, designed to sit naturally alongside the historic architecture rather than compete with it. The result is a home shaped as much by what we uncovered as by what we added — a restoration that respects Foxdale's past while giving it a new chapter. Rooted in its landscape, rich with character and made to feel as though it has always belonged here.
